Obedience

“I will make them and the places around my hill a blessing. And I will cause showers to come down in their season; they will be showers of blessing.” Ezekiel 34:26

Every Tuesday night I lead Bible Study at my church. Sometimes I share what I am learning, sometimes  we do a video led series. Now we are doing Beth Moore’s James: Mercy Triumphs. This last week she talked about rainy seasons. In Scripture the rainy seasons are necessary for a crop to make it to the harvest.

In life, the rainy seasons are necessary for a crop to make it to the harvest.

I used to look at rainy seasons as dark, depressing times of struggle. I now look at them as times of blessing…I would rather be in a spiritual rainstorm than in a spiritually dry desert. Beth Moore asked how many women were in rainy seasons…those times when God is washing you with His presence at every turn.  A friend acknowledged that she was in a rainy season…”I was struggling,” she shared beautifully, “until I  decided to go where it was raining.”

That is the essence of obedience.

This is the week of obedience personified.

In the frenzy of life we must pause to remember. We must remember that as we pray for showers of blessings, what we want pales in comparison to the obedience HE wants to develop in us.

HE has used Brighten A Corner Ministry to teach me more about this reality of obedience than anything besides my family.

I am praying for showers of blessing at the BAND TOGETHER fundraiser. More than that, however, I am praying that we are obedient as we put it together, and that our obedience fashions our character into what HE wants it to be. Not because we’ll make more money; not so we’ll look good to the world; but because it is only in that obedience that we will ever make it to the harvest.

Have a blessed Holy Week.
